A Friend Of Mine

A friend of mine once told me his great story
The story of how he came to live his current life
And all the hardships he’d passed through to get here
How he became known in all his glory

I asked him if he ever regretted anything
He turned to me, worn features glistening with tears
And said quite simply put that “The past is the past.”
He left me on my withered park bench, and then came the epiphany

From the beginning of my life I’ve let everything get to me
Every little mistake, every lost friend, every failure
When instead I should look around and live now
And stop living then, take my uncertain loves and make them sure

I looked backwards one last time taking in all the anguish
Every pain I’ve felt and every pain my friends have endured
And I sealed it in a ball of light inside my heart creating love anew
And I cast it unto all my friends, pulling them in for the final time

A friend of mine, he no longer lives, is no longer of this Earth
But I know somewhere out there he is listening, smiling and joyful
I’ve embraced his tale and made it my own and now we live as one
Thanks all my other friends, I’ve now lived and found my worth.
