A LOST MEMORY

I look up at the sky,
Its yellow like a photograph.
Its sunset warms my heart,
Then I remember and shut down again.

I turn away from the sky,
Too prideful to admit what I saw,
A little girl stands in front of me.
She warms my heart,
Then I remember and shut down again.

She smiles a big toothy grin,
While drinking her sweet apple juice.
She runs to hug her mom.
It warms my heart,
Then I remember and shut down again.

My heart beings to ache,
For a lost memory now shows its ugly head,
A tear rolls down my wrinkled cheek,
Now more.

I brush the tears away,
Then lie and say its dust.
Realizing the girl is no more,
Hardens my heart.

I now look hard at the girl,
Still skipping around in my memory.
The girl is still me,
Saying that warms my heart.
Then I look around,
Remember and shut down again.
