My Favorite Place
There must me some magic,in that dark abounding abyss
that tends to draw me outward
to the nights cold comforting bliss.
The vast open skies,
the tiny bright lights,
listen to my heart poured out.
Like the blanket that envelopes me
shielding me from cold wind
the nightly linens cover me
protecting me from hurt within.
Here I am invincible.
Here I am untouchable.
Here I am free.
The night liberates me of
the bondage of the day.
In the dark I feel God’s love
in the quiet soft grass where I lay.
I empty myself.
I quiet myself.
I let my torment scream into the silence.
Here, the Lord comforts
my broken weary soul.
Here, he says. "Dear daughter,
I’m here to make you whole."
I don’t want to fall asleep.
I want to stay here free,
Because I know what day will bring.
My eyes will begin to droop
and I’ll start to head back in.
My last moment in the evening’s cool.
The ebony sky, my kin.
Alone in the night.
My calm starry life.
My lone, silent solace.
