The Masquerade

Once there was a masquerade,
And everyone danced as the music played,
I came to the party clothed in white,
On that beautiful summer night,
There was prince also dressed in white,
And together we danced under the moonlight,
Everyone there soon stopped and stared,
Everyone watched for everyone cared,
All of the masks and feathers glanced my way,
At the masquerade,
Glitter and gems sparkling in the masquerade,
But the sun then rose through the sky,
And when he noticed he whispered bye.
I hoped and prayed he said a lie,
But afterwards he said goodnight,
For the dance must end at morning’s light,
I told him “You cannot go!”
He only said “it must be so.”
Who was the prince, I needed to know at last,
So before I left I pulled off his mask,
And once I did I ran from that place,
For under his mask there wasn’t a face.
