Running Away

Sticking her hand out the window, the air danced upon it
creating dents in the skin
flowing like silk over the extremities
filling the gaps between her fingers.

In her palm she hid a lit cigarette from the prying wind
making sure it didn't put it out
Sometimes she pressed it to her lips inhaling the menthalated smoke.

The night reached through out the city
putting people to sleep and turning on lights
like stars binded to the earth
the red headlights peirced the darkness
uncovering the road

"How far should we go?" her almost silent voice breathed.
The fragments of light inside her eyes sparkled
unaffected by the dampening of the dark
The wheels whirred along the endless highway
stretched above roads and pulled under bridges
