The Songs That Saved My Life

Sitting alone in my dark room
I put on a CD and
Lurk into my closet

Tears well up and start to fall
The cold steel of the razor
About to slice my skin

The voice of an angel
Plays softly through the speakers
Almost magically taking all my pain away

I listen closely to the song
The lyrics, the guitars, drums, bass
Everything

For the first time in my life
The tears that were gently sliding down my cheek
Were that of joy

Staring down at my wrists
No crimson in sight
No scars

Smiling
I turn the music so the angel
May hear their song in heaven

Every night
I pray to that angel
Thanking him for helping me see this night
