Who DO we Remeber
Who do we Remember? We remember those who died
But only those who died while carrying a gun
To say that remembering them is unimportant is a
Lie
It is important to remember them
But what we ignore is the others
The ones who died in vain
What did they do to deserve death?
It has been said many a time that if a person can not give life to those who’ve lost it
In no way should they the life from those who have it?
Why are these not the words we live by?
How can we justify the slaughter of close to Two Hundred Thousand people in close to Ten seconds?
How can you justify the death of a small child playing in the streets of Berlin when an Air strike hit?
How were they to blame?
We Focus our attention on world leaders, On politics and groups or movements
We say that only one nation or Person is to blame
When in reality we are all to blame
When Hitler and The NAZI Party took control of Germany and “started the War”, by the end every German was a Nazi even if the never supported or believed a word that came out of Hitler’s mouth.
We focus our attentions to the Holocaust and The anti-Semitism that occurred
We forget the internment camps where the “Evil” Japanese Canadians were sent and where they died.
Who here has heard of David Suziki and The nature of things?
Who here remembers first grade?
Who here knows that at the age of 6 David was imprisoned for being Japanese?
He was and is More Canadian then I.
Who knows where Slocan City is?
Does anyone know that He was interned in Slocan City?
These are not just the horrors of the Second World War but of all war.
There will always be a death recorded or labelled unimportant, just another casualty of War. There will always be a death remembered for that person was wearing a flag on their lapel or carrying a gun. If we were to remember every death and care we would be able to achieve the insurmountable goal of world peace!
Are you or I so different from these people? Those who died for no reason they like you or I had families. They are us, they are you or me, but they are just the forgotten dead. To stand before you all as my peers is frightening to say the least but my words and voice need to be heard even if just by one person. I am not afraid of what I am saying or what you may say about me after this I just hope you are listening. If there is one thought I want to leave you with today it is that you should remember that any one of you could be the next forgotten death or casualty of war.
Thank you
