Dead Night
There’s a sudden, secret, silence in the dead of the nightWhen whispers are heard
And souls roam to protect their living
The echo of nothing screams with the maggots as hours drag by
Each slight hint of noise becomes frightened
And conceals itself in shadows
Lies are twisted and thrown betwixt the two worlds
So truth can emerge from the depths of that blackness.
When half the world is burnt,
And the diamonds in the sky are stolen by the city smoke
Somehow, air is purer-
I inhale-
I savor my breaths for they are temporary
The mind grows weary,
Yet fills itself with thoughts unknown to others
And speaks of love through dreams,
It’s only real enabler
Let all past regrets and hatred be forgotten
In this smooth, dead night I beg,
So all can be cleansed by the touch of the moon
With curious, invisible eyes peeking over my shoulder,
Interrupting my only hours alone,
Imagination sings in broken sentences
I can feel arms settle around me,
Begging my body to join love in bed
Then I realize I’m alone
And love is only in my head
There’s peace in the snores of those around me
The eyes struggle a losing fight
And then I am dead,
But still watched by the murmuring voices
That cover themselves in graves
And dance in the still night
