How My Daddy Loved Me
Born of divinity and love;I came to know him
Without the eyes of my mother.
I grew up gentle.
Going to school,
Playing at the jungle gym.
Snacking on graham crackers and apple juice.
Daddy said he loved me.
Fairytale stories.
Princesses in high towers,
Princes on white stallions.
The fire-breathing dragons;
Slain.
Daddy said I was his princess.
I came to know daddy.
Understanding his thoughts while he
Soothed my tears.
Hugging me close to him,
To dulcify my aching lesion.
Daddy said I was his heart.
Soft touches that came often,
Kissing my cheek.
I was a good girl.
Daddy said I was sweet.
Playing every night.
Dressing up like the
Characters of my fairytale.
Eating when I got tired.
Daddy said I was beautiful.
Sleeping in his arms;
The lullaby of his sated snore.
In those nights,
I knew daddy.
Daddy said it was right.
I was surprised when they
Took away daddy.
Asking me questions;
I didn't understand.
I told them.
Daddy said he loved me.
Daddy said I was his princess.
Daddy said I was his heart.
Daddy said I was sweet.
Daddy said I was beautiful.
Daddy said it was right.
While he was breathing hard
Above me.
Pushing, pushing.
Agonizing, torturing.
Daddy loved me.
