Aftermath

I watch the blood run down your face
My teardrops do the same
The sight of this is killing me
I can't even say your name

Nobody tells me what happened
Why you're sitting here this way
They tell me to just walk away
But I know I've got to stay

I search your face for signs of life
Behind the swollen eyes
While getting sympathetic hugs
As they try to stop my cries

All you ask of me is to find her
While you try to walk it off
I watch her, stunned and angry
As she laughs the whole thing off

You beg her for forgiveness
We all know you're not to blame
Even though I know you love her
I don't think she feels the same

The pain I feel inside me
Is reflected in your face
The bruises, blood, and swelling
Is a sight I can't erase

My chest constricts in anguish
As they send you on your way
The paramedic tells me
That you're going to be okay

Someone finally tells me
What has just occurred
And when they say that you're alright
I cling to every word

I wish that you would see me
And how I'm so afraid
I don't want to lose you
And the memories we've made

I look at you for one last time
Then drink away the sorrow
Will either of us remember
When I look at you tomorrow?
