On Her Wrist
On her wristWith a shiny silver pin,
She carved the word "Sorry" into her skin
To remind herself of how sorry she really was.
That was the day the school buses were cancelled
And she was stuck at home
Because of the snow.
Being alone gave her time to think
Of everything that was wrong with her
Until she couldn't stop herself anymore.
On her wrist
With a sleek silver razor,
She carved the word "Smile" into her skin
To remind herself that better times were ahead.
That was the day her brother left for college
And she was stuck at home
Left with only her childhood.
Being alone gave her time to cry
And think about her future
And show she didn't have one.
On her wrist
With a pair of sharp scissors,
She carved the word "Why" into her skin
To ask herself why she was even doing it.
That was the day she pondered the answer
And couldn't find it
No matter how hard she tried.
So she surrounded herself with family and friends
And they watched her cry and scream
And were there for her when she was done.
On her wrist
With a black Sharpie marker,
She wrote the word "Love" on her skin
To remind the world that it still exists.
That was the day she threw her razor out
And promised herself
She would never do it again.
And being alone was just a state of mind
And the cuts turned to scars
And the past stayed in the past
And never again became the present.
