Times of Change
Dusting off the empty shelves,Memories of you have long been gone.
Deep in the dust, it wanders, my mind,
But why? There’s nothing left to find.
Picking up the pieces of what our life used to be,
What happened, what was it between you and me?
Chairs sit overturned, undisturbed,
Reminding me of the time my voice could once be heard.
Given time, my emotions have hardened,
The last time I laughed, the last time I gave a smile,
It's been a long while.
But don’t blame yourself,
When you find this on your bedroom shelf.
Just read it and know I'm sorry for the change.
But I have to wonder,
Where were you when mother dealt with us,
me and my sister, where were you father?
You never left us, no, you never did,
But in the back, door shut tight, that’s where you hid.
The lies you told me,
I was foolish to believe.
Deceive, unweave, and grieve.
That's all you ever taught me.
