I forgot to laugh

It’s funny how a laugh can turn to a sigh,
It’s funny how three words can bring me off my high,
It’s funny how I did not reply,
It’s funny how I only said ‘goodbye’
It’s funny how those were the last words I spoke
It’s funny how I’m now watching you lying there broke
It’s funny how I’m now ready to choke on the words I’ve been wanting to say.
It’s funny how I need you here today
It’s funny how you heart monitor just started to buzz
It’s funny how the nurse is pushing me away saying ‘we need you to leave now love’
It’s funny how the man in the white doctor’s coat is whispering ‘I’m sorry’
It’s funny how I sank to my knees
It’s funny how I’m begging God ‘please’
It’s funny how you are no longer to be
It’s funny how my tears could fill the sea
It’s funny how we used to joke
It’s funny how we used to share something as silly as a coke
It’s funny how it’s raining outside
It’s funny how many times I lied
It’s funny how the stone is announcing your name
It’s funny how I’m now so ashamed
And it’s funny how people see the right as the wrong
And it’s funny how later they’ll long to switch their deeds from wrong to right
And it’s funny how their throat will only grow tight
And it’s funny what we tend to regret
And it’s funny how we didn’t see the true threat
And it’s funny how nature sees our mistake
And it’s funny how she then reaches and takes
And it’s funny how you weren’t given one last opportune-ity
And it’s funny what has been done is done
Then in the end
It becomes so funny
That there is no longer a reason to laugh
