My Heart Beats Fast

I speak to him
In a crowded, noisy room
His musical laughter
Rings loudly in my ear
As my heart beats fast

We bump shoulders
While walking to class
As he apologizes
Like the gentlemen he is
As my heart beats fast

I hear my name called
From his graceful lips
Never knowing how pretty
It sounds from his voice
As my heart beats fast

He stands near me
His presence so significant
The small distance between
Almost like a bridge
As my heart beats fast

I see his smile
Dazzling above everyone else’s
Bringing joy upon my face
Even if his joy is not to me
As my heart beats fast

We lock in a brief glance
As we turn away
Like nothing has ever happened
But all along
My heart beats fast

My heart beats fast
My heart beats fast
A sign
Telling me
What I should do

My heart beats fast
My heart beats fast
Yearning me
To spill the words
That I want to
