The First Time

Lonely nights aren’t unusual
I’ve spent months crying myself to sleep
Cause there is so much that you can’t see
It’s all in my mind
It’s all my imagination, I know
I’m done thinking about what could have been

This is the first time in a long time
I can see your face
Without feeling my heart break
The first time in a long while
That I can smile, around you
The first time in what feels like years
I can let go of all my fears, even for a second
The first time just for a moment…
I feel whole again

And so the story goes on
Without a sound you know
I don’t want to be without you
I guess this is what it comes to
Me, alone again, in my room
I wasn’t ready for love
It's more than I’m afraid of

This is the first time in a long time
I can see your face
Without feeling my heart break
The first time in a long while
That I can smile, around you
The first time in what feels like years
I can let go of all my fears, even for a second
The first time just for a moment…
I feel whole again

The first time around
It all came crashing down
I’m going to be strong
I’ll try and move on
But I’ve been a mess since you left
All I want to know is why
You keep saying this is for the best

This is the first time in a long time
I can see your face
Without feeling my heart break
The first time in a long while
That I can smile, around you
The first time in what feels like years
I can let go of all my fears, even for a second
The first time just for a moment…
I feel whole again

I don’t want to be lonely anymore
